New Nationalism in the Heart of Europe is a project about the generation of conflicts due to political interests and the divisions in Central European society arising from prejudices, superstitions and resentments. The project is mapping tense social issues in what is known as the Visegrad or V4 countries - Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Through film footage and outputs in the form of reports Rafa defines the relativity of the boundaries between patriotism and nacionalism (extremism). He approaches terms such as multiculturalism, xenophobia, extremism and neofascism against the background of everyday life. The reports generated from Rafa's investigation contain content about new nationalism that are easy to understand by wide range of audiences.
The work from this project is housed on a website and has been shown in galleries and other venues. Screenings of the videos are often followed by community discussions about the nature of the conflicts and the people who are the subject of discrimination. Through the community discussions the participants have discussed the nature of nationalism and the specific conflicts in their region and been moved to participate in positive social activism.
